CAREER HIGHLIGHTS


Rick has over 25 years of experience in the refining and petrochemical industries. Rick’s strong technical background, combined with extensive experience in plant operations and process and project management, brings a broad, common sense background to his consulting engagements. His hands-on experience spans from managing technical services and major capital projects to negotiating contracts and supporting refinery asset transactions, both in the U.S. and Europe.

Rick has recently managed three major refinery modernization programs where the goals included finding financially beneficial investments while upgrading for low sulfur fuels production. The most recent being a $400 million expansion and modernization of a U.S. refinery including meeting the EPA requirements for low sulfur fuels.

As a consultant, Rick has used his strong technical, project, and operating experiences to aid clients in the valuation, acquisition, and operations transition during three large refinery transactions. Rick excelled in the areas of unit optimization, project development, and capital budget planning. He also has extensive experience in negotiating supply and service contracts.

Rick joined Stancil & Co. in August 2000.

REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE


  • Mergers & Acquisitions - Provided consulting support, pre- and post-closing due diligence, measurement and valuation of hydrocarbon inventories, operations support, project development, and capital budget planning for refinery acquisitions in the U.S. and Europe.
  • Project Development Including Financial Analysis - Project development, process design, and financial analysis responsibilities for:
    • $400 million refinery expansion program that includes, but is not limited to, technical evaluation and process design for crude unit, FCCU, alkylation unit, ultra low sulfur diesel unit, and low sulfur gasoline unit.
    • $300 million Eastern European refinery modernization program that included technical evaluations for ultra low sulfur diesel, low sulfur gasoline, low sulfur heavy fuel oil, and refinery upgrades to meet EU specifications.
    • $200 million modernization of the Williams Memphis refinery. During the modernization, had a leadership role in the process and project development and financial analysis for all grassroots and revamped units.
  • Economics & Planning - Participated in competitive analysis and strategic planning for an Eastern European refiner.
  • Reviewed operating and reliability performance. Developed project strategy and blending requirements to meet all European product specifications.
    • Represented two different U.S. refineries on comprehensive strategic business development plans to determine future value of options.
